Tangent Scale Models HO 20082-01 PS4750 Covered Hopper Soo Line 'Kellogg Grain 1989+' SOO #111385
- Truck: Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with “Timken” rotating bearing caps and separate brake beam part
- Wheels: CNC-Machined 36″ Wheels
- Era: 1989-2014
SOO “ex-Kellogg Grain” 1989+ replicates an example of a 1980s secondhand car, as SOO Line expanded their grain fleet. SOO applied reporting mark patches and small reflective white delineators on some carbody posts. The prototype carbody has weathered to a darker yellow, and the Kellogg graphics have weathered from blue to green. These prototype paint features are carefully replicated on this SOO model. This ex-PTLX car features a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated early-style Miner outlet gates. Up on top, the roof features replacement roof hatch covers. The model is equipped our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Timken” rotating caps and correct truck-mounted brake beams. This is a sharp looking SOO patch.
The Pullman-Standard PS-2CD 4750 covered hopper was the largest production covered hopper design in history, and is therefore statistically important to virtually any modeler from the 1970s to the present. Tangent Scale Models continues the evolution of our “phased approach” PS4750 models, not “one-size fits all” models. This release shines a spotlight on 1973-1974 Pullman production. Some of these cars feature a brand-new Tangent body variation for cars to handle the combination open-hole and closed-hole side posts on the same body.
Our November 2025 production includes eleven total schemes, with eras spanning 1973 to today. Don’t miss out on the Tangent Scale Models PS4750, the most relevant freight car of the 1970s-1980s period.
A quick synopsis of our 1972-1981 era and railroad-specific detail variations include:
