Prototype History:

In the 1970s, 60' high-cube appliance boxcars came onto the scene from multiple freight car manufacturers. Often confused as auto parts boxcars because of the similar size and appearance. Pacific Car & Foundry began delivering the 7633 cubic foot boxcars in early 1975 to the Milwaukee Road, Western Pacific and the Missouri Pacific system. Many cars were delivered with Air-Pak bulkheads. Even though all railroads that purchased these cars were western or midwestern roads, they spent much of their time in points east. Many of the Milwaukee Road cars had return stencils for the Penn Central and the MP & WP cars were purchased for use at various General Electric facilities.

Delivered in April 1975, Pacific Car & Foundry built 17 of the appliance service 7633 cubic foot boxcars for Western Pacific numbering 3151 thru 3167. The WP ordered these for GE appliance service and were equipped with Airpak bulkheads. Later the cars had the bulkheads removed they were renumbered from 3171 to 3187. Many of these cars served well into the Union Pacific and could been seen riding the rails through the 2010s.

If you model anything from 1975 to today, we have a PC&F 7633 Appliance Boxcar for you.
