Prototype Information:
Built in the late 1980s by GE, the DASH 8-40B diesel locomotives were identified by their dynamic brake gear located along the roof line between the cab and engine compartment, with ventilation provided by large roof-top grilles. These four-axle, high horsepower engines are still in service today in North America.
Model Features:
- Directional lighting
- Painted safety rails
- Blackened metal wheels
- Factory-equipped with AccuMate knuckle couplers
- Scale Speed motor
- Golden-white LEDs
- Standard cab or gull wing cab as appropriate
- Two versions: Gold Series Decoder-equipped (ESU Loksound) or Silver Series non-decoder equipped**
**Lombard Hobbies Recommendation - As modelers ourselves we highly recommend ONLY running DCC on DCC systems and DC on DC systems, regardless of 'Dual-Mode' capability. This gives optimum performance and safeguards the unit from possible damage from running on a different system than originally intended and from any inexperienced operator errors.

Review of Atlas Master GE Dash 8-40BW
Let me first say, I am going from DC to DCC and bought this engine, along with a different Atlas engine, to add to my layout. Here are couple of my thoughts.
* Operates well on my track, no derailments. Somewhat jerky as I found problems with my track and cleaning the rails. Can't blame the engine.
* The cover for the tanks on the underside that also includes the speaker has a very close tolerance with the rails. Engine would stop moving and get hung up on the underside when going over a hump in the track. All fixed by smoothing out my track.
* Bright headlight and ditch lights.
* Excellent slow movement.
I was just not ready to have to do some track maintenance. Initially I was disappointed in my choice of engines until I realized that my track was the problem. Once corrected, it made all the difference in my opinion of this engine.
Would buy this again.
