Bluford Shops N 14607 70-Ton 3-Bay 14-Panel Hopper w/Load Chicago & Eastern Illinois "buzzsaw" C&EI #523308
Railroad Specific Info:
In 1967, Missouri Pacific took control of Chicago & Eastern Illinois and sold the eastern leg and half interest in the Chicago line to L&N. C&EI adopted their own version of the MP buzzsaw logo and renumbered their 14-panel hoppers into the 520000 series.
Prototype History:
The Bluford Shops N scale 14-Panel 3-Bay Hopper returns in nine new paint schemes. The design of this hopper was spearheaded by New York Central in the late ‘50s as they sought an alternative to the AAR 70-ton rib side hopper design. In the end, this 14-Panel design proved to be popular with more railroads than the AAR design.
Features of this hopper include:
- Diecast slope sheet/hopper bay assemblies for plenty of weight – even when running empty
- Removeable loads
- Metal wheels
- Magnetically operating knuckle couplers
- Separately applied brake detail
