Kato N 176-5626 DCC Ready EMD SD90/43MAC Locomotive Canadian Pacific CP #9136

Prototype Information:

Weighing in at more than 400,000 pounds and with a length in excess of 80 feet and massive 4,300 horsepower tractive effort, the SD90/43MAC is one of the heaviest, longest, and most powerful single diesel locomotives in the world. To date, there have been three production 'versions' of the SD90MAC. The SD90/43MAC was originally designed with a 6,000hp engine in mind, but was fitted with a smaller and more reliable 4,300hp engine that ended up being kept that way by most railroads, even though the option to upgrade to the higher horsepower engine was offered at a later date.

Model Features:

  • Powerful five-pole KATO motor with dual brass flywheels
  • Directional Headlight and preprinted numberboards
  • Kato magnetic knuckle coupler
  • DCC Friendly mechanism ready for drop-in decoder installation
  • Drop in DCC compatible with the Digitrax DN163K2 or Train Control Systems K2D4 decoders, each sold separately.

**Lombard Hobbies Recommendation - As modelers ourselves we highly recommend ONLY running DCC on DCC systems and DC on DC systems, regardless of 'Dual-Mode' capability. This gives optimum performance and safeguards the unit from possible damage from running on a different system than originally intended and from any inexperienced operator errors.

Nice. Number boards and front handrails are not installed as delivered, and if you have a tremor forget about it. Tracking through turnouts is not as reliable as GE units, and change to miniscule flanges from earlier release is bad for operators. Somewhat disappointing.
