Bluford Shops N 44201 International Car Company Bay Window Caboose Phase IV Burlington Northern 'ex-Frisco patched' BN #11709
In 1980, Frisco was merged into Burlington Northern. While this may seem an odd combination at first, Frisco actually fit nicely onto the southern frontier of the old Burlington Route and provided a northeastern outlet for BN’s old Fort Worth & Denver route. However, it was Frisco’s talented management team that the BN board of directors really coveted so buying the railroad was a means to bring them aboard. Frisco cabooses were renumbered with whatever stencils were on hand or could be picked up at the local hardware store. BN 11704 had its original road number blotted out with Frisco boxcar brown with the new road number applied in Railroad Roman. BN 11709 was patched with Frisco’s Mandarin orange with new gothic stencils applied.
Bluford Shops International Car Bay Window Caboose Phase 4 is based on the family of steel bay window cabooses developed by International Car Company beginning in the early 1950s. Over the years the design of the bay windows evolved and each phase features a number of bay window style and other detail variations. This N Scale International Car Window Caboose Phase 4 has a steeper pitch on wide bay sides, a dual-pane window and flatter top on the bay window. The ready-to-run model features wire grab irons, body mounted magnetically operating knuckle couplers, close coupling and Fox Valley Models metal wheels. Ladders and running boards are included on appropriate paint schemes for each version.
