Bluford Shops N 42121 International Car Company Bay Window Caboose Phase II Chicago Great Western CGW #632
Chicago Great Western switched from somber maroon to bright red for their locomotive and caboose fleets in 1963. Perhaps they were putting their best foot forward as they shopped around for a merger partner, including a proposed CGW-KCS-C&EI combination. The railroad was making money thanks in part to running fewer but stupendously long trains. 200-250 car monsters were not rare. CGW did find their dance partner with the 1968 merger with Chicago & North Western. This road name will be available in 2 road numbers.
Bluford Shops International Car Bay Window Caboose Phase 2 is based on the family of steel bay window cabooses developed by International Car Company beginning in the early 1950s. Over the years the design of the bay windows evolved and each phase features a number of bay window style and other detail variations. This N Scale International Car Window Caboose Phase 2 has a steeper pitch on the bay sides and sloped top bay window. The ready-to-run model features wire grab irons, body mounted magnetically operating knuckle couplers, close coupling and Fox Valley Models metal wheels. Ladders and running boards are included on appropriate paint schemes for each version.
