Bluford Shops N 40151 International Car Company Half-Bay Window Caboose Phase 1 Conrail Shared Assets CR #21303 

In 1999 Conrail was divided with Norfolk Southern receiving 60% of the system and CSX receiving 40%. Dividing certain high traffic terminal areas was impractical so these became Conrail Shared Assets on which both NS and CSX would have access. Just after the split, two former Conrail half-bay window cabooses that were inherited by Norfolk Southern were in need of repainting. They rolled out of Juniata Shops in NS caboose red but with a full set of Conrail logos and lettering. This was a classy gesture especially since NS initially assigned them to operate on Conrail Shared Assets lines.

Bluford Shops International Car Bay Window Caboose Phase 1 is based on the family of steel bay window cabooses developed by International Car Company beginning in the early 1950s. Over the years the design of the bay windows evolved and each phase features a number of bay window style and other detail variations. The N Scale International Car Window Caboose Phase 1 features wire grab irons, body mounted magnetically operating knuckle couplers, close coupling and Fox Valley Models metal wheels. Ladders and running boards are included on appropriate paint schemes for each version.
