Atlas Master Silver Series HO 10004147 DCC Ready MPI MP36PH-3C Locomotive Metra #410

The 3,600 horsepower MPI (Motive Power Industries) MP-36 locomotive is one type in a series of passenger locomotives produced in the company’s MPXpress lineup. While there have been numerous variations produced, this new Atlas model represents the most common, the MP36PH-3C. This variation includes a separately powered Head-end Power (HEP) system which alleviates the need for high prime mover RPM to power the passenger cars’ lighting and electrical systems.

    This is a nice looking and running locomotive. It represents the rebuilt version when Metra installed a CAT D18 HEP generator. The exterior differences are confined to the rear hatch area. The hatch is very nicely done. My only complaint is that it lacks the Layover System warning beacon.
    The model runs very smoothly. The headlights, numberboards, Ditch light, oscillating light and cab light come on in the forward direction. In reverse, the rear headlight, marker lights and numberboard lights illuminate.
    At some future point I plan on installing a sound decoder into this model.
