Three of the Erie Lackawanna 1953 ICC cabooses were transferred to D\u0026amp;H in 1976, numbered DH 35805-35807. This Tangent model shows how D\u0026amp;H 35805 appeared in its 1981+ configuration. Let’s cut to the chase: Look at those trucks. By 1981, the 35805 lost one of its ERIE General Steel Castings Express trucks and had it changed to a plain bearing leaf spring caboose truck. The 35805 ran with this truck configuration for the rest of its D\u0026amp;H career. We have accurately modeled this neat detail on the model.  The model is painted in D\u0026amp;H bright red with “THE BRIDGE LINE” slogan, and the classy D\u0026amp;H logo, which is owned by the Delaware \u0026amp; Hudson Railway Historical Society. The ACI label has been removed, with a patch remaining. The side marker lights were removed and plated over by the D\u0026amp;H Oneonta, NY shop personnel during its refurbishing. The wagon wheel antenna is gone, replaced with a Motorola firecracker antenna. On one end, you will notice a plated window with oil fill, as D\u0026amp;H installed an oil bunker in that corner for the CABAN oil heater. For lighting, this D\u0026amp;H 35805 is equipped with “golden” interior lights, mimicking the incandescent bulbs of the real cabooses along with flashing (red) end FRA lights. Notice the FRA light is offset to the left of the daytime red reflective disc, just like this exact prototype. The Erie Railroad had previously relied on its Dunmore, Pennsylvania shops to build its steel caboose fleet, with both riveted and welded versions of cupola cabooses between 1941 and 1946. By 1952, ERIE wanted a bay window style caboose. Even though the Dunmore Shops would build one prototype sample, ERIE pivoted the design and production to online customer International Car Corporation. Kenton, Ohio-based ICC used its design, engineering and construction knowledge to create these 50 modern, streamlined, all-steel bay window caboose cars.
