These “Murphy Corporation Lessee” cars have silver-painted tanks, with black end frames. Painted on the silver body is a proud “SPUR” logo on the side of the car. The SPUR lettering inside the logo and on the sides and ends of the tank is dark blue. The logo’s blue letter stenciling contrasts nicely against a white background, and on the right of the logo is the star that is seemingly found on all Murphy branding. This 1965 paint job screams 1960s and 1970s, and we are excited to offer it today! Among many small stencils, the words “Liquified Petroleum Gas Only” are stenciled on the right side, denoting the service for these cars. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps. These cars are stunners. Silver “SPUR” tank cars were seen everywhere in North America in the 1960s/1970s period!

Truck: Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with rotating Timken bearing caps and separate brake beam part

Wheels: CNC-Machined 36″ Wheels

Era: 1965-1979

Our May 2026 release of the HO NACC 1963-design 33,000 Gallon Dual Diameter Flammable Gas Tank Car includes the following paint-scheme specific details and variations:

• Highly correct “true to life” colors
• Industry-leading “Hyper-Accurate” lettering including exact fonts and lettering placement
• Multiple road numbers for each scheme
• Beautiful 8-course tank body
• “See through” rooftop walkways and end platforms
• “Lacey” handrails and ladders
• With or without separately-applied anti-personnel bars alongside the carbody
• Prototypically accurate hazardous placard mounting locations
• Accurately angled bolster details
• Dimensionally-correct hazardous placards with accurate hole detail
• “See-through” bolster detail just like the prototype
• Detailed brake system including a combination of plastic and wire parts to maximize realism
• Separate flexible durable rubber air hoses
• “Near-scale” draft gear box with beautifully-rendered side “key” detail
• Genuine Kadee scale couplers – no knock-offs – and schemes that should have shelf couplers… have shelf couplers!
• Our precision Tangent Scale Models 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with prototype-specific rotating bearing caps (four possible options!) and separate brake beam part
• CNC-machined 36” wheels with accurate front and back detail
• Replacement semi-scale wheels available separately from Tangent
• Weighted to NMRA specifications
• Recommended age 14 years and older

Prototype History:

North American Car Corporation (NACC) produced this 33,000 Gallon Non-Insulated tank car design between 1963-1965.
