The first ALC-42 was delivered to Amtrak on June 17, 2021, and entered revenue service on February 8, 2022, on the Empire Builder. Initially, the first 9 locomotives were delivered in a special variation of Amtrak Phase VI paint. The 10th engine delivered introduces Amtrak’s Phase VII livery, which will be the new standard paint scheme for Amtrak going forward.
